1990 Stieff Smithsonian Sterling Carousel Sea Horse Xmas Ornament Pendant. Kirk Stieff sterling silver adaptation Carousel SeaHorse ornament from the 1990 offerings. It does not have the red drawstring pouch or romance card.

The box it is in is a plain red gift box similar to the original. Any gold tones or spots you see are the result of poor photography.

Made by The Stieff Company for the Smithsonian Institution in 1990, this design was chosen from their collection of American Folk Art. Created for a practical purpose these arts display the pride of technique and the satisfaction of skill performance that mark the artist.

By the 1880's the carousel was an elaborate and fascinating collaboration of metal, plaster and polychrome wooden sculpture. One of the best of the carousel factories was organized by Gustav A.

Dentzel in Germantown, Pennsylvania after 1867. The original horse was created about 1902 under Gustav's son's supervision.

This original horse has been part of the collection in the National Museum of American History at the Smithsonian Institution.
