Antique German Baby Girl w/Bows Glass Christmas Ornament Restoration Rare! This very old German Hand-Blown and molded ornament came to me as so many of this age do, with a big American cap placed over the broken pike opening, most of the face gone, and alas, eyeless. (You can view that in the last photo). My goal as a restoration artist is to return the ornament to it's original intent.

[This one appeared recently at an ornament repair workshop I conducted for The Golden Glow of Christmas Past] For this one, I built a glass-like pike utilizing silver-lining from a broken vintage ornament and a UV-cured adhesive. A more appropriate European metal cap now fits. A facial paint restoration was achieved with painstakingly matched modern paints while leaving the original bows and head color. Vintage German glass doll eyes in soft brown.

Significant internal silvering loss leaves this with a warm patina that shows better without light directly behind it. Please see all the photos as I show the pike restoration and original condition.

If you're an absolute purist, this may not be for you, but I like to think of my work as an extension of the original German family who would have created this in their cottage in the Lauscha region of Germany. I'm just putting on the finishing touches a hundred years late. I always state claim to my work, as I do restorations professionally. Will come wrapped in acid-free tissue paper in a sturdy box.
