Rare Htf! Large Antique Chenille 1920's Vtg 8.5 Star Xmas Ornament, Japan

Most of the Christmas ornaments from Japan are from the 1950s on. A few, however, like this one, are from the 1920s.

They made these types of pieces from a rough chenille, that is actually sisal. It has been called chenille for so many years, but it is a rope type fiber. I have a candy container from the same era also made from this type of chenille.

When you find this rough type of chenille' it is usually a piece that is much older than the soft chenille. Japan didn't make a lot of ornaments in the 1920s - candy containers (they made a lot of mesh candy containers), and a few ornaments, like this one. This one has been stored away. It's condition is just wonderful - bright and clean. The center part that is natural color has darkened with age.

The red is still vivid. It is large, measuring 8 1/2 across. It is a 3D puffy star, with foil die cut paper leaves, and a few small composition berries.

It is really wonderful, and won't disappoint. The hanger is just thread, and coming loose. If you hang it, you would want to add something a bit more substantial.

The chenille covers molded cardboard. It is made from simple materials, and has just wonderful charm.
