Oh what a rare find these ornaments are! Especially in a set of six!

They are from the late Depression (late 1930's) through the war years (1940 to 1945), and were made in the US. They are large, measuring from 4 1/4" across for the stars, to 4 3/4" long for the long ornament. They are made from molded cardboard that is slightly pleated, covered in silver.

The silver has darkened but still has a bit of gleam lieft! Each ornament has a pleated center of red cellophane, with a tiny composite berry in the middle.

The cellophane is fragile, and the berries are slightly worn, but all are there. Some of the ornaments have creases, but they are all sturdy and clean. They all have their original wires - green paper over wire that goes through the hole and the attaches through the back to the composite berry in the middle. Composite, by the way, is a combination of glue, sawdust and plaster. The set displays really well, and they are sooooo charming and different.

This is the only set I have ever had - I have found one of these at a time, ever once in a while, but since they are made from paper, they really didn't last over the years. These are definitely from the category of "how DO these things survive"! They show their age with really great patina, and won't disappoint.
