As a graduate of UC Berkeley, she was a founding member of the Berkeley Repertory Theater and, after moving to New York, had a successful career in regional theater. In the 1980s she studied jewelry making and Tiffany & Co. She partnered with Barneys in 1989 and introduced the stores first jewelry collection.
